Each grandchild gets one of these, engraved with child's full name and date of birth (as soon after arrival as Grandpa can both afford and remember it). Christening mugs are a lovely tradition - and of course they don't require a christening - but as the cost of pewter rises it's becoming more and more of a luxury, and much of the pewter one sees is foreign, and the baby-sized mugs are usually hideous. These, though, are British and beautiful; at £38, not a trivial gift, but still better than the prices on the High Street.
